It’s a good thing my Derrick Rosie O’Donnells had that strong start to the week on Monday. Otherwise, I might’ve wound up going the entire week without seeing my squad scrounge up any advantage over Big State.

Simply put, Tuesday was a fantasy basketball massacre. I can cope with losing Tony Allen to a hand injury for two weeks, but trying to scrape by while Serge Ibaka is suffering through the flu is no easy feat.

Or even a fruitful one, for that matter. It certainly didn’t help that DeMar DeRozan and Rudy Gay, both of whom “play” for Big State and were once a pair on the Toronto Raptors, combined for 60 (!!!) points, while poor Terrence Ross managed a mere three of his own.

It’s okay, though. My eternal optimism will help me to narrow the 7-1 gap that stands between my D-RODs and Mike Walsh’s Big State…right?

Wednesday’s nine-game slate should yield a much fairer fight for The Lazy Man’s Guide to Fantasy Sports. If Kris Humphries plays, the D-RODs figure to feature an 8-6 advantage over Big State in active players. Whether my eight, with Goran Dragic and Jameer Nelson both set to compete, can outperform Walsh’s six, buoyed by Monta Ellis and DeMar DeRozan, is another story entirely.

That being said, it’d be nice to see my D-RODs make up some grounds in at least a category or two, if only to ensure that the second half of the year’s first full week doesn’t turn out to be little more than the icing on a rotten cake for yours truly.
