After a disastrous 1-7 start through Tuesday, my Derrick Rosie O’Donnells have fought back valiantly to narrow the gap on the scoreboard with Mike Walsh’s Big State. Serge Ibaka’s three blocks against the Denver Nuggets put us ahead in that category, and his 2-for-2 performance at the stripe sliced a few measly-but-important percentage points off Big State’s lead in free throw accuracy.

We’re also now well within striking distance in assists. That category seems like my D-RODs’ best bet to pull even on the cards, with free throw percentage and steals representing our best opportunities to sneak ahead for our second winning week of the season by the time Sunday’s action comes to a close.

But before we get too caught up in the end game here, let’s have a look at what Friday’s massive, 12-game slate has in store…

A busy night in the NBA means that Mike and I will both be fielding close-to-complete squads as we ease our way into the weekend. Big State will have the “simple math” advantage—and probably the real one, too.

Two of my top contributors (Goran Dragic and Nene) will be matched up against top-notch defenders (Mike Conley Jr. and Roy Hibbert, respectively). Alonzo Gee, who never did much for me anyway, will be doing even less now that the Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired Luol Deng to serve as their starting small forward.

As far as the positives are concerned, I like the idea of the stocky Jameer Nelson going toe-to-toe with the tiny Isaiah Thomas and of Joakim Noah facing off with a Milwaukee Bucks frontline that, while long and athletic, has struggled defensively this season.

I’ll have my fingers crossed all night, hoping my D-RODs emerge on Saturday morning with their hopes for a W still intact. Won’t you join me?
