The Results 1/20/2014 + The Matchups 1/21/2014

Now that we’ve wrapped up last week’s results, let’s get y’all up to speed on this week’s matchup and how yesterday’s 10-game slate for MLK Day tipped off the proceedings between my Derrick Rosie O’Donnells and Alec Nathan’s Victor’s Oladipbros…

ANALYSIS

Looks like the early start to NBA action on MLK Day snuck up on both of us. I was disappointed to see Paul Pierce and Terrence Ross tethered to the bench, though their combined contributions (four points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals, a block and a three-pointer) don’t strike me as particularly pivotal.

Not yet, anyway.

If anything, our shared negligence actually worked to my advantage. By failing to check and set his lineup in time, Alec left a total of 35 points, 21 rebounds, two assists, three steals, three blocks and a pair of threes rotting on the pine alongside Andray Blatche, C.J. McCollum, Shaun Livingston and Draymond Green. Had we both visited the league in time to field our most complete squads, the Oladipbros would be up 6-2 on the scoreboard right now, with even more massive leads in points, field percentage and free throw percentage than the ones he already owns.

Hopefully, the basketball gods will shower me with some positive luck on Tuesday to help my D-RODs get back in the game…

ANALYSIS

…Or not.

Somehow, Alec has seven guys going tonight, despite the fact that there are only five games on the schedule. Of those seven, three (Chris Bosh, Kevin Love, Kevin Martin) might rightly be characterized as consistent contributors, if not of the top-shelf variety. At least one of the other four (Blatche) is liable to pop off for a big game off the bench.

As for me, Serge Ibaka is about as close to Ol’ Faithful as my D-RODs have on deck—and even his contributions for the Oklahoma City Thunder ebb and flow.

And that’s putting it kindly.

Here’s hoping Ibaka, Pierce, Kris Humphries and Jameer Nelson all explode simultaneously, either statistically or physically.

If it’s the latter, at least I’ll have reason to restock my roster with…more waiver wire pickups.

Le sigh.
